Matt Lucas Apologizes to Millie Bobby Brown Following Appearance Comment

Actor and comedian Matt Lucas has issued an apology to Millie Bobby Brown, after Brown called Lucas out over comments made by the actor about her appearance.

What did Matt Lucas say about Millie Bobby Brown?

Lucas took to Instagram to issue the apology, telling Brown that he meant no harm by the comment made about her. The comments were made on X this past week, and showed a photo of Millie Bobby Brown while at the premiere for her upcoming Netflix film The Electric State. Alongside the photo, Lucas said “no but yeah but,” a reference to the character of Vicky Pollard, which he played on the sketch comedy show Little Britain.

“Dear Millie, I just saw your post and wanted to respond, and provide some context,” Lucas wrote in his message. “Nearly 25 years ago I co-wrote and appeared in a sketch show called Little Britain. There was a character in it called Vicky Pollard, who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top, and in the photo you had blonde hair and wore a pink top so I pointed out the similarity by posting one of her catchphrases.

“I thought you looked terrific and I was mortified when the press wrote that I ‘slammed’ you, firstly because that’s not my style, and secondly because I think you’re brilliant. I would not have posted it if I had thought it would have upset you but I realise it has and for that I apologise. Matt x”

Lucas’ apology comes after Brown took to Instagram, where she called out a variety of celebrities and journalists who made remarks or wrote stories about her recent appearance. Brown said that it amounted to nothing but “bullying,” and expressed hope that, going forward, people will be more open to letting people age and grow in Hollywood without commenting on how they look at all times.
