The Handmaid’s Tale sequel show, The Testaments, has added a new co-lead to the cast.
Based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale premiered on Hulu in 2017. The series has now run for five seasons, while the sixth and final season is set to premiere on April 8, 2025.
A sequel series, The Testaments, is in the works. The show is also based on a novel by Atwood, which was published in 2019.
Who has been cast in The Handmaid’s Tale sequel show?
Lucy Halliday has been cast in the role of Daisy in The Testaments, per Variety. She’ll join Ann Dowd, who is reprising her role as Aunt Lydia, and Chase Infiniti, who is playing Agnes.
Halliday previously starred in a 2022 indie movie called Blue Jean, which earned her a Best Actress BAFTA Scotland Award and a Best Supporting Performance nomination at the British Independent Film Awards. She’ll soon be seen in a new movie directed by James McAvoy, California Schemin, which McAvoy also stars in.
The Testaments comes from creator and showrunner Bruce Miller. Miller serves as an executive producer on the series, which comes from MGM Television, alongside Warren Littlefield of The Littlefield Company.
A description of Atwood’s novel reads, “More than fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.”
A premiere date for The Testaments has not yet been announced.
