Actor Charlie Cox, who is all set to reprise his role as Matthew “Matt” Murdock / Daredevil in the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, reflected on the prospects of his character getting a Nanotech helmet in a new interview. The use of Nanotech technology has become a prominent aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years, with several characters using nanites for various purposes.
Charlie Cox on Daredevil getting a Nanotech helmet in potential Avengers team-ups
The Defenders actor recently appeared for an interview alongside his co-star Vincent D’Onofrio, who portrays Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, where the interviewer referenced the Nanotech technology featured in the MCU.
The interviewer from Screen Rant urged Charlie Cox to promise that he would decline the offer to upgrade his helmet with Nanotech if and when the Avengers came calling. The actor, appearing amused, asked, “Okay, why?”
The interviewer then claimed that the helmets created with the Nanotech technology in the MCU didn’t suit Daredevil as a character. He added that whenever Daredevil takes off his physical mask, there is a “power that comes off” and it wouldn’t be the same if it just glitched off. To this, D’Onofrio agreed with what the interviewer said, “I think you’re right. That’s a good point.”
Additionally, when Charlie Cox responded that the street-level heroes always knew about this, Vincent D’Onofrio advised his co-star not to make any promises he couldn’t keep. Cox agreed and noted something to the interviewer that could be construed as a point in favor of Nanotech helmets. “I will say this though, what you don’t get to see is sometimes when that [helmet] comes off, it’s a bad hair day,” he said.
As mentioned above, multiple characters in the MCU have used tools made with Nanotch technology and nanites. This includes Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Shuri, T’Challa, Erik Killmonger, and more. However, the purported widespread use of it as a plot device in various MCU projects has drawn criticism from fans. This is because the makers use CGI to depict these tools and not practical effects.
Meanwhile, Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
