The first official Lanterns photo is out, giving fans their first look at the upcoming DC Universe show set to premiere on HBO in the future.
The new photo comes as HBO and James Gunn announce that the series has officially entered production. It received an official straight-to-series order at HBO in June 2024, more than a year since the 8-episode project was first announced back in January 2023.
Who is shown in the first Lanterns photo?
The new photo shows off both Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as John Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively. The pair can be seen walking down a road, with Chandler’s Jordan wearing his Green Lantern Corps. ring on his finger.

Alongside Pierre and Chandler, Lanterns will also star Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro and includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry. Poorna Jagannathan will also star in the upcoming series as Zoe.
Lanterns will be executive produced by Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country, Ozark), Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Watchmen), and Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), with the latter two also co-writing the series.
“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” the synopsis reads.
