A new update for The Penguin Season 2 has emerged.
The Penguin is an HBO series created by Lauren LeFranc that premiered in November 2024. A spin-off of 2022’s The Batman, the show sees Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobb/Penguin.
There’s been much talk about a potential second season of The Penguin since the finale aired. Matt Reeves has stated a number of times that they’re exploring how the show could continue, though nothing has been officially announced at this time.
What is The Penguin Season 2 update?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, LeFranc now “has a take for Season 2 and DC [Studios] is down to do it.” However, whether it moves forward or not seems to largely depend on Farrell, who has stated before that he doesn’t particularly enjoy the extensive makeup process he has to go through in order to transform into Oz.
DC Studios’ Peter Safran recently said they “don’t know” if The Penguin Season 2 will come to fruition.
“There are a lot of moving pieces — probably most important Colin [Farrell] himself,” Safran explained, per Variety.
“And 800 pounds of makeup,” Gunn added.
Farrell also recently addressed the matter, as he told Variety at the SAG Awards, “I don’t want it. I don’t not want it. We all left it in the ring in those eight hours. I would hate to, just because of a quote-unquote success, have to go again and for it to be a diluted version of what people seem to feel it is, majoritively. So I’m in no rush. I have no deep desire to do it…Sure, if they think of something that works in conjunction as a parallel to Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and it’s a good idea, I’m open to it. But it’s not something concerning me.”
