Murderbot Release Date & Images Revealed for Alexander Skarsgård Apple TV+ Show

Apple has officially revealed the Murderbot release date, along with two images from the upcoming series, giving us our first look at Alexander Skarsgård in the Apple TV+ series.

When is the Murderbot release date?

Murderbot’s release date has been set for May 16, 2025, when the ten-episode series will make its debut with the first two episodes. Following that, new episodes of the series will air every Friday through July 11, 2025. The new images of the series show off Skarsgård as Murderbot, both with and without a helmet on.

Murderbot is based on the book series The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, which originally began in 2017. The series follows the titular cyborg, a “SecUnit” owned by a megacorporation that tries to free itself from enslavement. After developing relationships and ingesting things various media, Murderbot begins forming its own connections and friendships.

The series will star Alexander Skarsgård in the titular role of Murderbot. Alongside Skarsgård, Murderbot will also star David Dastmalchian, Noma Dumezweni, Sabrina Wu, Tattiawna Jones, Ashkay Khanna, and Tamara Podemski. The series is co-created by Chris and Paul Weitz, who are writing, directing, and producing the show.

“Based on Martha Wells’ best-selling, Hugo and Nebula Award winning book series The Murderbot Diaries, Murderbot is a sci-fi thriller/comedy about a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients,” reads the series’ official synopsis. “Played by Skarsgård, Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.”
