A spin-off novel of the popular animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender, titled Avatar Legends: City of Echoes, is set to debut soon with the character Jin as the protagonist. The animated television series aired from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon network and generated a big fanbase. It was also showered with immense appreciation from critics and audiences from across the globe.

The Avatar: The Last Airbender spin-off novel has now got a release date update. Avatar Legends: City of Echoes will be penned by best-selling author Judy I. Lin, who is known for the Book of Tea duology. It is set to arrive on bookshelves on July 22, 2025.
Lin announced the news on her official website. She wrote, “Surprise! I am writing a book set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe! It’s part of a series about the unsung heroes in the ATLA and Legend of Korra animated series. It’s called Avatar Legends: City of Echoes and it will be coming your way on July 22, 2025. Yes, that’s right. This summer!”
According to Abram Books, the Avatar: The Last Airbender spin-off novel’s publication house, it will center around the character of Jin. She makes a brief appearance in Season 2 of the TV show. Jin goes on a date with Zuko in Episode 15, “The Tales of Ba Sing Se.”
As per the official synopsis, Avatar Legends: City of Echoes will showcase Jin’s story. She is “a refugee whose parents were killed by the Fire Nation.” It also reads, “She does her best to keep her head down in the Lower Ring, caring for her ailing grandfather and balancing school with survival. Her one bright spot is her best friend Susu, whose family treats Jin like one of their own, and whose bakery she helps make deliveries for.”
Additionally, the logline depicts challenges coming Jin’s way when “Susu’s father gambles away the bakery and Susu is forced to take a contract in the Upper Ring to pay off the family’s debt.” This then leads to Jin’s journey to save her friend, where she also comes across the city’s dark secrets.
