Not Suitable for Work, a new comedy series created by Mindy Kaling, has been given a series order at Hulu.
Kaling is known for playing Kelly Kapoor on NBC’s The Office. She has also created television series such as The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever, and The Sex Lives of College Girls, among other titles
Kaling’s new show, which was announced in 2024 under the working title Murray Hill, has now been officially greenlit by Hulu, per Variety.
What is Mindy Kaling’s Not Suitable for Work about?
The show “centers around five work-obsessed twenty-somethings striving for professional success and, if they have time, personal happiness in Manhattan’s most glamorous neighborhood, Murray Hill,” per the official logline.
In addition to creating the series, Kaling also serves as an executive producer under her Kaling International banner. Charlie Grandy is the showrunner and will also executive produce, as will Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment.
No casting for the show has been announced at this time. A premiere date has not yet been set.
The Mindy Project initially premiered on Fox, though it then went to Hulu after its third season for the remainder of its six-season run. She also created the romantic comedy miniseries Four Weddings and a Funeral for Hulu. That show stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Nikesh Patel, Rebecca Rittenhouse, John Reynolds, Brandon Mychal Smith, and more.
In addition to Not Suitable for Work, Kaling recently co-created a new Netflix series, Running Point, alongside Elaine Ko, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen. Starring Kate Hudson and Brenda Song, the sports comedy series is scheduled to premiere on February 27, 2025.
Grandy has worked with Kaling a number of times, as Grandy was a writer on The Office, The Mindy Project, Champions, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and Velma, all of which Kaling is involved with.
