The first reviews for Yellowjackets Season 3 have come in.
The first two episodes of Yellowjackets’ third season are now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime. New episodes will drop on Sundays, starting on February 23, 2025.
“The Yellowjackets continue to fight for survival after a brutal winter in The Wilderness,” the synopsis for the new season reads. “In the present day, still reeling from Natalie’s death, the survivors are forced to uncover secrets they thought were buried for good.”
What are critics saying about Yellowjackets Season 3?
Variety’s Alison Herman said that, similar to YellowJackets Season 2, the flashback scenes set in the wilderness far outpace “their more diffuse, less purposeful counterparts.”
Herman wrote, “The show retains a tight grip on what has always been its greatest strength: depicting how the brutality, and maybe spirituality, of untamed nature brings out what’s already within adolescent girls.”
Many critics pointed out that Yellowjackets Season 3’s pacing requires some patience from the audience. Empire Magazine’s Leila Latif elaborated, “Yellowjackets Season 3 takes longer to get going than the show’s previous two outings, but is still a transfixing watch with an achingly cool soundtrack and plenty of stomach-churning tricks up its sleeve.”
TheWrap’s Lauren Thoman, as did several others, questioned whether or not all the mysteries in Yellowjackets thus far will ever be answered.
“As each episode delves deeper into a plot that has no shortage of twists, it can get a bit tiring to still have no idea of the destination,” Thoman wrote. “By this point, it’s fair to wonder if the series has one in mind, or if it’s navigating by vibes alone. Still, for viewers who are able to trust the process, there’s a lot to enjoy in Yellowjackets Season 3.”
GamesRadar+’s Emily Garbutt, meanwhile, said that Yellowjackets Season 3 is “upping the ante” compared to the first two seasons and praised “some surreal dream sequences that get pretty wacky.”
