Daredevil: Born Again Showrunner on Why He Fought for Karen and Foggy to Return

There is no Matt Murdock without Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. At least that’s the belief held by Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane. Before a creative overhaul in October 2023, Karen and Foggy were not in Born Again. Once Marvel brought in Scardapane as the showrunner, he initiated the returns of Matt’s closest associates.

“That was actually one of the first things I said to the bosses,” Scardapane told Empire in a new interview. “You can’t do this show without Karen and Foggy. They’re Matt’s family. They’re the heart of his world. You can’t take them out without explaining why, and if that explanation doesn’t ring true, don’t take them out.”

Scardapane’s request was granted as Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson returned to reprise Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively.

“I was willing to lose a job over this one,” Scardapane said about demanding the returns of Karen and Foggy. “Because Season 3 of the Netflix show ended with a dream, with the names on that napkin. If you don’t pay that off, you’re not giving your characters context. You can’t ignore that dream.”

Who is involved in Daredevil: Born Again?

Besides the duo of Woll and Henson, Daredevil: Born Again marks the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Born Again also stars Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer, and Jon Bernthal.

“Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk pursues his own political endeavors in New York,” the official synopsis reads. “When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.”

Daredevil: Born Again’s directors include Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, Michael Cuesta, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and David Boyd. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, Chris Gary, Scardapane, Chris Ord, Matt Corman, and Benson and Moorhead are executive producers.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres on March 4, 2025, on Disney+.
