Lauren Graham recently shared her thoughts on the parallels that her characters on Gilmore Girls and the upcoming Tubi comedy The Z-Suite share. The seasoned actress first received worldwide recognition for playing Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls. In the fan-favorite series, she portrays the mother of Alexis Bledel’s Rory Gilmore as the duo attempts to navigate the challenges of life with each other. With Graham now returning to the small screens this year with The Z-Suite, she has come out to convey her opinion on how Lorelai Gilmore compares with her leading character in the forthcoming Tubi series.
Lauren Graham wants Gilmore Girls fans to support The Z-Suite despite ‘no similarities’
In a recent discussion, the 57-year-old television veteran revealed that her Gilmore Girls role actually has no similarity to her character in Tubi’s The Z-Suite. Nevertheless, she still urged the fans of the Amy Sherman-Palladino-created show to still Z-Suite an honest try.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lauren Graham stated, “There are no similarities, and I hope they’ll come along for this ride.” She then emphasized the uniqueness of her Gilmore Girls character, noting, “I can’t do that. I can never replicate the beauty and the magic of that character and that writing and that time, so I might as well not try. This is something very different, but she’s fun and kooky, and the show has a spirit to it that I think has a coziness to it, but it’s a very different character.”
In The Z-Suite, Graham plays Monica Marks, an advertising professional who loses her job and reputation after an accidental controversy, alongside her right-hand executive. The pair ultimately decides to join forces and regain their positions in the industry, all the while taking on their new-age counterparts who have effectively replaced them.
The Z-Suite releases on Tubi on February 6, 2025.
