What happens in the Surviving Black Hawk Down trailer?

The trailer features interviews with the Army Rangers and Delta Force members who fought in the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia. Mogadishu residents — from local women to the militia soldiers fighting against the Americans — are highlighted throughout the series. One of the eye-opening interviews teased in the series is with a local resident who used a camera to document the footage of what happened that fateful day.

On October 3, 1993, Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid and his militia took out two Black Hawk helicopters that were sent to capture two of his top lieutenants. The ensuing rescue attempt by the U.S. soldiers to recover the men in the downed aircraft served as the basis for Scott’s films.

Surviving Black Hawk Down is produced by Scott through his Ridley Scott Associates banner. Jamal Osman and Emma Supple are the producers, while Dominic Crossley-Holland and Tom Pearson will be the executive producers. Jack MacInnes is the director.

Scott’s 2001 movie is an adaptation of Mark Bowden’s 1999 book Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War. Black Hawk Down starred Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, and Sam Shepard. Nominated for four Academy Awards, Black Hawk Down won two: Best Film Editing and Best Sound.

Surviving Black Hawk Down streams on Netflix on February 10, 2025.
