Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed the potential Squid Game Season 3 release date window for the final installment of Netflix‘s hit South Korean thriller series. This comes after a day since the long-awaited second season made its debut.
When is the potential Squid Game Season 3 release date window?
During a recent interview, Hwang confirmed that Netflix is currently targeting a summer or fall release date for Squid Game Season 3. In addition, the Emmy-winning series creator also teased what fans can expect to see from Gi-hun in the final installment as he once again finds himself in a very difficult situation.
“What I can say is, after Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon. I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year,” Hwang shared (via Variety). “But as for the storyline of the third season, you’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in season 2.”
Squid Game hails from writer-director Hwang Dong-Hyuk, who is best known for his work on South Korean films such as The Fortress, Miss Granny, and Silenced. It centers around a group of 456 cash-strapped players who accepted a strange invitation to compete in children’s games on a remote island in hopes of winning 456 billion won. However, they find out that the prize comes with deadly high stakes.
Season 2 features the return of Lee Jung-jae as he reprises his Emmy-winning role as Gi-hun. He is joined by new cast members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, and Jo Yu-ri. Besides Lee, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, and Gong Yoo also return in the new season.
