The fan-favorite Netflix teen drama Outer Banks has received a disappointing update regarding Season 5’s filming and release date. The series originally debuted on the renowned streaming platform in 2020 and instantly managed to amass a significant fanbase. Since then, the show has spawned four chapters, with its latest edition coming out on Netflix in two parts in October and November 2024. The general expectation regarding the fifth and final season of Outer Banks was that it would premiere sometime next year. However, a recent piece of information seems to have negated this proposition, much to the dismay of fans.
Outer Banks Season 5’s release date won’t be before 2026
In a recent discussion, Jonas Pate, one of Outer Banks’ creators, revealed that Season 5 of the series will commence filming in 2025, suggesting that the season won’t arrive before 2026.
The creator divulged the update in an interview with Port City Daily. While talking about Outer Banks Season 5, Pate stated that the edition “begins shooting in the spring through the end of 2025.”
Pate is establishing a new production company of his own and will inaugurate the studio with the premiere of a new film titled Driver’s Ed. Bobby Farrelly has been hired as the project’s director, with filming set to begin in early 2025 in Wilmington, North Carolina. Notably, this setting also serves as the shooting location for Outer Banks. With Pate conveying that filming on Driver’s Ed will conclude prior to that of Outer Banks Season 5, it appears it will come sometime in 2026, if not later.
The second season of the Netflix series premiered after a gap of 15 months after Season 1. However, the third and fourth chapters generated a longer wait, with each of them coming out around 19 months after their respective predecessors.
