A Yellowstone spin-off series with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser is now officially in the works.
In August, it was reported that MTV Entertainment Studios and 1010 Studios had begun negotiating with Reilly and Hauser to reprise their respective roles, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, following the Yellowstone Season 5 finale. It wasn’t immediately clear if they were being eyed to lead a spin-off or a potential Yellowstone Season 6.
Now, according to Deadline, Reilly and Hauser have officially closed deals to once again play Beth and Rip in a new spin-off series.
What else do we know about the Yellowstone spin-off with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser?
The series is being created by Taylor Sheridan and “will likely feature other cast members from the mothership series alongside Reilly and Hauser,” according to Deadline.
Deadline’s article also notes, “Led by Yellowstone characters played by the same actors in the same present-day time frame, the new offshoot shares the most DNA with the mothership of any shows in the Yellowstone universe to date, which explains why it will be the first spinoff to carry Yellowstone in the title, sources said.”
No other casting information for the series has been announced at this time. Paramount has not yet revealed a premiere date.
The Yellowstone Season 5B finale, meanwhile, airs on December 15, 2024.
Executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros told Variety about the finale, “I think this last batch of episodes leads us to the end of an era,” she said. “It’s impossible to talk about it in any detail without tipping my hat towards things to come. But I think [co-creator and writer] Taylor [Sheridan] has managed to — and I’m really not sure how he’s done it, I think it’s sort of masterful — bring the ending to something that feels both shocking and fated at the same time. You need to get to the end of the story to fully understand everything that has come before.”
