One Piece live-action star Vincent Regan, who plays Luffy’s estranged grandfather Monkey D. Garp in the hit adaptation, spoke about the potential release date window for Season 2 as well as some details about Season 3.
One Piece, an adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga series of the same name, is created by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda. Though some fans of the manga and the anime series had some doubts about the live-action TV adaptation, the series immediately became a surprise hit for Netflix — so much so that it eventually received a Season 2 renewal.
What did Vincent Regan say about One Piece Seasons 1 & 3?
While no release date has been set yet for the highly anticipated second season, Regan — while at the Vienna Comic-Con — revealed to CeralKillerz (via What’s On Netflix) when Season 2 can potentially arrive on the streamer.
“I’ve come back from South Africa now. I’ve filmed season 2, everything my character is doing in season 2 is finished, and now they are finishing in about a month, I think they’ll finish filming. So I think the show will be ready for Netflix before Christmas next year. I hope,” said Regan.
The actor also didn’t hold back on giving some details about Season 3, saying, “I guess they’ll start filming Season 3 pretty soon, and I think they are doing — I think it’s called the [Arabasta] story arc. I think it’s going to take two seasons. What I’ve seen of the designs, drawings, and when I was there there was some really fun stuff being shot there at the moment.”
The main cast members will return to reprise their roles, including Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, with Regan, Ilia Isorelys Paulino, Jeff Ward, and Michael Dorman also returning.
They will be joined by newcomers Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, and David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3.
Rounding out the Season 2 cast are Werner Coetser, Brendan Murray, Clive Russell, Callum Kerr, Julia Rehwald, Rob Colletti, Ty Keogh, Joe Manganiello, and Lera Abova.
The second season is still in production. One Piece Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
