Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Apple Cider Vinegar, a “true-ish story based on a lie” starring Kaitlyn Dever as a real-life influencer who faked her cancer story.
The upcoming limited series is created by award-winning writer Samantha Strauss (Nine Perfect Strangers) with episodes directed by Jeffrey Walker (The Clearing). It is written by Strauss, Anya Beyersdorf (The Twelve), and Angela Betzien (Total Control).
What happens in the Apple Cider Vinegar teaser trailer?
The trailer opens with Dever’s Belle Gibson revealing that she was diagnosed with a stage-four tumor. As medical procedures failed to work, she opted to heal herself naturally through specific healthy lifestyle choices. The wellness guru quickly became famous for managing to heal herself through a healthy diet. Belle, however, was never sick — and she never had cancer.
Apple Cider Vinegar is inspired by The Woman Who Fooled the World by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano. You can watch the teaser trailer down below:
“Set at the birth of Instagram, Apple Cider Vinegar follows two young women who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, influencing their global online communities along the way. All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true,” the official synopsis reads. “This is a true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down.”
Dever is known for starring in Booksmart, Ticket to Paradise, No One Will Save You, Unbelievable, Rosaline, Dopesick, and more. In addition to Dever, Apple Cider Vinegar also stars Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear the Walking Dead), Aisha Dee (The Bold Type), Tilda Cobham-Hervey (I Am Woman), Ashley Zukerman (Succession), and Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin).
Newly announced cast members include Susie Porter (Irreverent), Matt Nable (Transfusion), Phoenix Raei (The Night Agent), Chai Hansen (Night Sky), Richard Davies (Offspring), Kieran Darcy-Smith (Mr Inbetween), Catherine McClements (Total Control), and Essie Davis (The Babadook).
