The source material for Presumed Innocent Season 2 has been revealed.
Created by David E. Kelley, the first season of Presumed Innocent premiered on Apple TV+ in June 2024. The series’ first outing, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich, is based on Scott Turow’s 1987 novel of the same name.
Presumed Innocent was renewed for a second season in July 2024; however, it was unclear how the series would move forward given that the first season covered all of Turow’s novel.
Per Deadline, it has now been revealed that Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. TV have acquired the rights to Jo Murray’s Dissection of a Murder, a book that will be published in spring 2026.
“Things are still in flux but Dissection of a Murder is expected to serve as inspiration for the second season of what is shaping up to be a true anthology series,” Deadline’s article reads. “There had been an idea for a character or two from Season 1 to carry over for continuity in the vein of HBO’s The White Lotus; it is unclear whether that is still a possibility.”
What else do we know about Presumed Innocent Season 2?
Dissection of a Murder is about a woman, Leila Reynolds, who has just been handed her first murder case but then has to battle her husband, who is the case’s prosecutor. This means that Presumed Innocent Season 2 will likely have a female lead, though no casting information is yet available regarding who will play Leila in the show.
Presumed Innocent Season 2 will be executive produced by Gyllenhaal, David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams, Dustin Thomason, Matt Tinker, and Rachel Rusch Rich. A release date has not yet been set.
The first season of Presumed Innocent, meanwhile, is now streaming on Apple TV+. Along with Gyllenhaal, it stars Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Lily Rabe, and more.
