A romantic relationship might be on the cards for Chicago PD‘s Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and ASA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues). Chapman caught the widowed no-nonsense commander of the 21st District Intelligence Unit by surprise when she expressed her romantic interest in him. Beghe, who has portrayed Vought since the inaugural season, recently spoke about the confession and how it has affected his character.
Jason Beghe says Voight and Chapman’s relationship on Chicago PD should evolve ‘naturally’
In the final minutes of Season 12 Episode 4 of Chicago PD, ASA Chapman makes it clear to Jason Beghe’s Voight that she deeply cares for him, leaving him stunned. According to Beghe, Chapman’s admission of her feelings “shocked” Voight. “There’s only a few moments at the end where he’s processing, but I don’t think he has processed it yet,” he explained to NBC Insider. “It’s a lot. You know? And it’s a compliment, you know? It’s a very professional guy and he respects women, you know, and he always has, so it’s kinda tricky… so he just kinda shut that part of himself off.”
This narrative development could potentially set up an interesting sub-plot for Voight. However, Beghe stated that he would not think about where the story was going and instead focus on the present. “I don’t like to think about where this’ll go. I’d rather be in this moment fully and then be in the next moment fully and things naturally change and evolve,” the actor said. “If we end up kissing, it’ll be because it’s an honest moment, you know?”
Beghe also reflected on whether Voight would assess if he and ASA Chapman have a future together on Chicago PD. “He’s a human being, and he’s observant,” he remarked. “One of the things that I like about Hank is… I think that he comes off as super complicated because he’s so damn simple. Just even, like, ‘Oh, is it gonna go somewhere?’ He’s not a guy who thinks about, ‘Oh, where would this go?'”
The 12th season of Chicago PD premiered on NBC on September 25, 2024, and airs weekly on Wednesdays.
