Exclusive: The Babies of Luna Park Series About 1920s Coney Island Nabbed by Pathway Pictures

ComingSoon can exclusively announce that Pathway Pictures has boarded a new series titled The Babies of Luna Park.

The Babies of Luna Park is a new series set in the 1920s that comes from writer and director Bat-Sheva Guez. It was recently presented to the industry at Gotham Week Project Market in New York City.

Pathway Pictures, which is helmed by Lauren Elizabeth Harris, has now come on board to produce The Babies of Luna Park. Additionally, Harris has signed on to play a character named Beatrice in the series.

What is The Babies of Luna Park about?

“In The Babies of Luna Park, an ensemble cast of outsiders find themselves drawn to Coney Island’s Luna Park, each with a dream for a better world,” a description of the series reads. “A young woman gives birth far too early, to a tiny premature baby. The doctor tells her to “say goodbye” to her child, but a nurse whispers ‘there is a place’ and that sets her and her husband on a path they had never imagined, bringing their tiny child – wrapped up inside a shoebox – to Luna Park, to meet the famed Martin Couney and his incubator sideshow. With a cast that includes wannabe mobsters, splashy mermaid performers, and more, this show is ultimately an antidote to nihilism, in the place you’d least expect it.”

Harris’ character is a wealthy socialite who is trying to seize power during the eugenics movement.

“It is not often that scripts literally take your breath away, but that is exactly what happened for me with Babies of Luna Park,” Harris said. “As an actor and producer, I read hundreds of scripts every year, but this one immediately stood out, and I knew I needed to get this made no matter what. Bat-Sheva is a visionary as a director and prolific as a writer, and getting to work with her in dual capacities on this project is nothing short of a dream. I’m very proud to be part of Gotham Week and greatly look forward to what’s to come on this project.”

Guez added, “I’m thrilled to have Lauren Elizabeth Harris join our team. Her unique talent as an actor and her absolute dedication and resourcefulness as a producer are a giant asset to this project.  She’s a delight to work with, and it’s a joy to bring this project to life.”

Guez also said about The Babies of Luna Park, “This is such an important story, about an immigrant and showman – and his partner and team – that dedicated their lives to getting the medical community to care about neonatal care. All set in the wildest and most visually stunning place you can imagine, a place where outsiders strive to make the world better against all odds. This story screams to be on screen in all its glory, and I can’t wait to share it.  I’m so honored to be selected by The Gotham to have this voice.”
