It’s official: Aaron Pierre will be the DCU’s John Stewart.
Lanterns is an upcoming DCU series that will follow Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a mysterious murder case. Kyle Chandler has been tapped to play Hal Jordan, while Pierre and Stephan James were believed to be the frontrunners being eyed for John Stewart.
Warner Bros. Discovery has now officially announced that John Stewart will be played by Pierre.
What other movies and shows has Aaron Pierre been in up until now?
Pierre previously played Dev-Em in Syfy’s Krypton television series. He also starred in Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad for Prime Video and played Malcolm X in Genius: MLK/X. He’ll soon be seen portraying a character named Miles in the upcoming fourth season of The Morning Show.
In regards to film, Pierre played Mid-Sized Sedan in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old. He went on to star in 2022’s Brother and 2023’s Foe before then playing Terry Richmond in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, which is now streaming on Netflix. He is also voicing Mufasa in Mufasa: The Lion King, which releases in United States theaters this December.
What else do we know about Lanterns?
“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” the synopsis for Lanterns reads.
Lanterns is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, while the first two episodes of the series are being directed by James Hawes. Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes all serve as executive producers.
A premiere date for Lanterns has not yet been announced.
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU officially kicks off this December with Creature Commandos. Following that is Gunn’s Superman movie starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, which will be released in July 2025.
