The Walking Dead universe is continuously expanding. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon: spin-off series, which debuted in 2023, follows the misadventures of Norman Reedus‘ Daryl Dixon in the aftermath of the original show. The crossbow-wielding protagonist soon encounters a French nun named Isabelle who used to be a party girl in her youth.
As things unfold, Daryl Dixon ends up sharing a kiss with Isabelle, causing the Walking Dead fandom to flip in surprise. In a recent discussion, Reedus has shed some light on the much-discussed scene.
Norman Reedus comments on Daryl Dixon’s experimental kiss in Season 2 Episode 2
According to Reedus, the romantic angle showcased between Dixon and Isabelle was purely experimental.
While talking to Entertainment Weekly, The Bikeriders star was asked about the unexpected kiss shared between Daryl Dixon and Clémence Poésy’s Isabelle in Episode 2 of The Book of Carol. Reedus responded by stating that the sequence does not mean to hint at a romantic arc for his character. “I think it was an experiment. It was, ‘What is this?’ It wasn’t a ‘This is it!’ It’s a ‘What is this? And what would that look like and how does that feel,'” he said. “I don’t think there was an intention to get to second base. I think it was more of scarily parting these curtains to look at the idea of it.”
Reedus then proceeded to paint a detailed account of Daryl Dixon’s motivations to provide a clearer viewpoint behind his decision to kiss Isabelle. “He’s been running and fighting his whole life,” the actor clarified. “[He] is asking himself: Have I been doing this wrong? Should I have just found someone and settled down in a farm and just had those moments of life before I die?”
As per Reedus’ explanations, the intimate sequence should help expand Dixon’s character. However, the scene could lead to a budding romance, with Isabelle now convinced to accompany Dixon on his journey. More details regarding the fate of the two leads should be revealed in the upcoming episodes of Season 2.
