Josh Brolin reveals Green Lantern talks and praises Kyle Chandler

Josh Brolin recently confirmed that his talks to play Hal Jordan in HBO’s Lanterns series “didn’t work out.”

In an interview with ComicBook, Brolin stated, “You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay. It’s working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what’s down the line, man.”

Lanterns is an upcoming series produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The series will feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two Green Lanterns who are drawn into a murder investigation set in the American heartland. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King are leading the project, with Mundy serving as the showrunner. The show has been described as a detective story, differing from typical superhero narratives.

Josh Brolin has confirmed that he will not be playing Hal Jordan. Kyle Chandler, known for his roles in Friday Night Lights and Bloodline, is reportedly in discussions for the role. Lanterns is part of a larger plan to launch a unified DC Universe, with James Gunn and Peter Safran overseeing the strategy.

The series is expected to release sometime after Gunn’s Superman film next summer, marking a key moment in DC’s new slate of content. The focus on the investigative aspect of the Green Lanterns positions Lanterns as a unique entry into the superhero genre.
