Netflix has officially welcomed The Rim of the World star Miya Cech to the Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 cast for the next installment of the hit live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series.
Cech has been tapped to portray the fan-favorite role of Toph Beifong, a blind girl who’s set to become Aang’s Earthbending master. According to executive producers Jabbar Raisani and Christine Boylan, they received “thousands upon thousands” of auditions after announcing the open casting search for Toph.
“We make a point of reviewing submissions separately and after countless tapes, we both had the same reaction . . . Miya is our Toph,” Raisani and Boylan said (via Tudum). “Miya is a brilliant performer who knows how to precisely balance the sarcastic sense of humor, stubbornness, and vulnerability that is Toph Beifong. Her physicality and emotional dexterity really put her in a class of one.”
Who is in the Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 cast?
Cech will be joining the ensemble cast led by Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko. Additional cast members include Daniel Dae Kim, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Lim Kay Siu, Ken Leung, Elizabeth Yu, Maria Zhang, C.S. Lee, Utkarsh Ambudkar, A Martinez, Yvonne Chapman, Tamlyn Tomita, and more. Besides Toph, more new characters are also expected to make their debuts in Season 2, including The Boulder and the Earth King. Just like the original, the live-action adaptation will be ending after its third season.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 will be based on the original animated series’ second installment titled Chapter 2 — Earth, which will see Aang, Katar, and Sokka searching for the right Earthbending master for Aang. The next installment hails from new showrunners Christine Boylan (The Punisher) and Jabbar Raisani (Lost in Space), with Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore and Michael Goi executive producing.
