HBO’s Harry Potter Series Begins Diverse Casting Call for Main Trio

Warner Bros. Television has shared a major update regarding HBO’s highly-anticipated Harry Potter series, revealing that the search for the next young stars who will be playing the franchise’s newest iteration of Harry, Hermione, and Ron has officially begun.

The open casting call is looking for children who are residents of the UK and Ireland. The announcement also seemingly revealed the project’s current production start date, as one of the casting call’s requirements is that actors must be around aged 9 to 11 in April 2025. Chosen young actors will officially be succeeding Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, who were also cast at a very young age to star in the blockbuster franchise.

“We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting,” the casting call stated (via Wizarding World). “For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated.”

Who is involved in the Harry Potter series?

Based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, the HBO adaptation is being written by Emmy-winning-producer Francesca Gardiner (Killing Eve, Succession). The series is executive produced by Gardiner, Mark Mylod, Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and long-time Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman. Mylod, who has worked with HBO on Games of Thrones and The Last of Us, will also helm multiple episodes. It is a production by HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.

The Harry Potter series is described as a “decade-long” project, with each season expected to adapt one book in Rowling’s acclaimed book series. This would mean adaptations of The Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows.
