Creature Commandos Release Date Announced for Animated DCU Series

Creature Commandos has been given an official release date.

Creature Commandos is the forthcoming animated series that is written and executive produced by James Gunn. It will be the first official project that is part of Gunn and Safran’s forthcoming DC Universe, also known as the DCU.

When is the release date for Creature Commandos?

Creature Commandos will premiere on Max on Thursday, December 5, 2024. New episodes of the seven-episode Max Original series will continue to drop weekly, with the finale then airing on January 16, 2024.

Entertainment Weekly also debuted a handful of other new Creature Commandos photos, which can be viewed below via a DCU Updates X post:

“Creature Commandos tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans,” the logline for the series reads. “When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option.”

The series’ voice cast includes Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot and Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation produce Creature Commandos, while Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register also serve as executive producers alongside Gunn. Rick Morales serves as a supervising producer.

Other planned series that will be set in the DCU following Creature Commandos include Peacemaker Season 2, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, Booster Gold, and an animated Blue Beetle series. The next DCU project that’s been announced following Creature Commandos will be Gunn’s Superman movie starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult. Superman will be released in United States theaters on July 11, 2025.

Creature Commandos premieres on December 5, 2025, as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
