Scrubs Reboot Update Given by Creator Bill Lawrence

A Scrubs reboot has been something fans have been hoping to hear more about for some time, and recently show creator Bill Lawrence offered up an update on the possibility of the show.

Speaking to Variety, Lawrence — who is also one of the co-creators of the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso — jokingly admitted that he used to tease a potential Scrubs reboot happening just to deflect from questions about Ted Lasso.

With the show over now, Lawrence revealed that there had actually been some movement on a potential reboot. The biggest thing holding them back, says Lawrence, is a lot of the business side of things.

What is the new Scrubs update?

“The business part of it can always get mucked up. But I’m super hopeful,” Lawrence said. “It would be fun to do not just because we want an excuse to hang out with each other, but because it’d be fun to do creatively. You don’t want to just mail it in. But it would be interesting to see those characters older and see what new young kids look like in medicine right now, because it is a heroic profession, and no one’s doing it to get rich.”

Lawrence also went on to talk about the passion for the show that’s managed to never fade away, something he thinks is due to the fact that they’ve never forced a reboot or any other continuation.

“It’s fascinating to me that the passion for ‘Scrubs’ has, I’m so grateful, never died,” said Lawrence. “Maybe it’s because Zach and Donald are such friends in real life and doing their podcast, and those T-Mobile commercials. None of us really need it, and that’s probably the biggest barrier to entry — everybody’s super successful, so talented and lovely.”
