Presumed Innocent Season 2: Peter Sarsgaard Not Interested in Returning

When Presumed Innocent Season 2 returns to Apple TV+, it will likely be without Peter Sarsgaard. In Season 1, Sarsgaard played Tommy Molto, a prosecutor who seeks to convict Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich. No casting news was announced with the Season 2 renewal. However, Sarsgaard is not “interested” in returning for another case.

“I’m not really that interested in sequels. I think I’ve only ever done one season of anything . . . I think I’m a one-season person,” Sarsgaard told Indiewire. “I tell my kids this sometimes, maybe I’ve done 90, 100 different things over the years between movies, TV shows, and plays. I say, ‘I’m very good at saying hello and saying goodbye.’ There’s a very valuable thing in saying goodbye because then you have to look for another source of inspiration, and then you change.”

What to Expect in Presumed Innocent Season 2?

After a well-received first season, Apple announced in July that Presumed Innocent would return for Season 2. The series will revolve around a new case, though Apple did not specify if any Season 1 characters will appear in Season 2.

Season 1 starred Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich, a lawyer accused of murdering his coworker and mistress. Additional cast members included Ruth Negga as Barbara Sabich, Bill Camp as Raymond Horgan, O-T Fagbenle as Nico Della Guardia, Chase Infiniti as Jaden Sabich, Nana Mensah as Det. Alana Rodriguez, Renate Reinsve as Carolyn Polhemus, Kingston Rumi Southwick as Kyle Sabich, and Elizabeth Marvel as Lorraine Horgan.

Presumed Innocent is based on the novel by author Scott Turow. The book was adapted into a 1990 film starring Harrison Ford as Rusty Sabich.

David E. Kelley created and executive produced Presumed Innocent Season 1. Kelley returns to executive produce Season 2 alongside Gyllenhaal, J.J. Abrams, Rachel Rusch Rich, Dustin Thomason, and Matthew Tinker. Turow will serve as a co-executive producer.
