The Waterfront: Holt McCallany to Star in Netflix Drama From Scream Writer

Mindhunter star Holt McCallany has officially signed on to play Harlan Buckley, one of the leading roles in Netflix‘s upcoming family drama titled, The Waterfront. The project hails from Scream writer Kevin Williamson, who’s best known as the creator of shows like Dawson’s Creek and The Vampire Diaries.

The full description for McCallany’s character reads:

  • Harlan – is the patriarch of the Buckley family, who has built up the Buckley fishery business with his dad, even veering into some illegal territory in the 1980s. Since his two heart attacks, Harlan hasn’t changed his lifestyle, but his absence from the family business left it in the hands of his wife, Vicki, and his son, Cane — whose desperate, foolish decisions have left Harlan with no choice but to take the reins once again. Is Harlan a hero? A villain? It’s a hard call. He’s just a man who loves his whiskey

What is The Waterfront about?

“Inspired by true events, the series dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat,” reads the show’s initial logline (via Deadline).

The Waterfront is executive produced by Williamson and Ben Fast for Outerbanks Entertainment, with Williamson also set as the writer. This marks McCallany’s latest collaboration with Netflix, after previously starring in David Fincher’s psychological crime thriller Mindhunter, where he played the role of FBI agent Bill Tench. It is a production by Universal Television.

McCallany’s most recent TV credit was last year’s hit Apple TV+ drama Foundation, where he portrayed the recurring role of Warden Jaegger Fount. He also starred alongside Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White in A24’s sports biopic drama The Iron Claw. Besides The Waterfront series, McCallany will next be seen in two spy thriller movies: James Hawes’ The Amateur with Rami Malek; and the untitled Mission: Impossible 8 movie with Tom Cruise.
