New The Batman Spin-off Series Is Being Explored, Announces The Penguin EP

Another series that serves as a spin-off to The Batman is being explored.

The Penguin, which is executive produced by Dylan Clark, will make its official HBO premiere this coming September. Serving as a spin-off to 2022’s The Batman, The Penguin sees Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about The Penguin, Clark revealed that another Batman spin-off series is already being explored.

What did Dylan Clark say about the new The Batman spin-off series?

“There’s another television exploration we’re going to do,” he said. “We’re looking at this entire world as it relates to who Batman is — the antagonists around them, all the crime that has to be navigated in the city — and trying to figure out where are the areas that are best to explore.”

Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.

A series centered around the Gotham City Police Department set in the same universe as The Batman was revealed to be in the works in July 2020. Terence Winter was initially tapped as showrunner, though he departed the project due to creative differences in November 2022. Joe Barton was brought on to replace him, though the series never came to fruition as Matt Reeves announced it was no longer happening.

Instead, Reeves said he was developing a series centered around Arkham Asylum, which James Gunn then later stated would be part of the forthcoming DCU. That series, however, was also revealed to no longer be moving forward at Max earlier this month.

The Penguin, meanwhile, comes from showrunner Lauren LeFranc. Along with Farrell, it stars Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Clancy Brown, Theo Rossi, Michael Zegen, and more.

The Penguin will premiere on HBO in September 2024. The series will consist of eight episodes. A sequel to The Batman, The Batman — Part II, is also currently scheduled to be released in United States theaters on October 2, 2026.
