Homicide: Life on the Street is finally making its streaming debut three decades after the procedural crime drama premiered on NBC

Based on David Simon’s book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, Homicide: Life on the Street — hailed as one of the most highly regarded police dramas of all time — debuted on the said network in 1992 and ran for seven seasons, spanning 122 episodes. It was then followed by a 2000 feature titled Homicide: The Movie, which served as the series finale. 

When is the Homicide: Life on the Street streaming release date?

Homicide: Life on the Street and Homicide: The Movie will be available to stream in the United States on Peacock starting August 19, 2024. The procedural crime drama chronicles the detective work of the fictionalized version of the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Unit.

According to NBCUniversal, Homicide: Life on the Street “examines the calculating and exacting detective work of the often confrontational, passionate, and opinionated homicide department in Baltimore. With a determined cast of characters that never let up in their quest for truth and justice, this gripping hourlong series remains the standard bearer of how police handle the job both professionally and personally.”

Throughout its seven-season run, the series received various nominations and accolades from several award-giving bodies, including the Primetime Emmy Awards, Peabody Awards, Television Critics Association, Directors Guild of America, NAACP, and Writers Guild of America. It is also the first-ever drama to have won three George Foster Peabody Awards for Drama.

Paul Attanasio created the series, with Tom Fontana having served as the head writer and showrunner. It starred Andre Braugher, Ned Beatty, Richard Belzer, Yaphet Kotto, Melissa Leo, Giancarlo Esposito, Daniel Baldwin, Jon Polito, Clark Johnson, Kyle Secor, Reed Diamond, Michelle Forbes, Peter Gerety, Isabella Hofmann, Toni Lewis, Michael Michele, Max Perlich, Jon Seda, and Callie Thorn.
