Tomb Raider TV Show Update Reveals Production Start Timeframe

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider TV show has received an update from Amazon MGM Studios Head of TV Vernon Sanders.

Speaking after the recent Emmy nominations for shows such as Fallout and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Sanders was asked by The Wrap how soon he thought production of the adaptation of the iconic video game series Tomb Raider would begin.

When will the Tomb Raider TV show start filming?

Sanders would respond with a fairly typical update on a project so early in its life, but did give some specifics on what was planned for the rest of 2024.

”We are hard at work. We’ve got great material. Phoebe is really good. We’re really excited. My guess is we’ll spend the rest of this year getting things prepped so that we can start production early next year.”

He then goes on to add a rather crucial point in production.

”We’ve got to find our Lara Croft, so that global wide search will start sooner rather than later.”

The Tomb Raider TV show was only officially greenlit back in May, so, understandably, there’s still plenty to do.

The Tomb Raider TV show will be written and executive-produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is best known for the award-winning series Fleabag. She has also starred in movies such as Solo: a Star Wars Story and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Waller-Bridge is a longtime fan of Tomb Raider and was naturally quite excited about this opportunity.

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode,” she said. “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

Before the Tomb Raider TV show at Amazon MGM, Netflix is releasing the animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft this year.
