Bedrock: Adult Flintstones TV Show Canceled at Fox

After receiving a pilot order from Fox over a year ago, Elizabeth Banks‘ adult-animated Flinstones series Bedrock is no longer moving forward at the network.

“The adult-animated comedy catches up with the Flintstone family two decades later, with Fred on the brink of retirement and 20-something Pebbles embarking on her own career,” reads the synopsis. “As the Stone Age gives way to a shiny and enlightened new Bronze Age, the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club.”

At the moment, there is no plan to shop the show to other networks. However, according to TVLine, Fox is reportedly willing to redevelop Bedrock at a later date. Banks was originally attached to produce and lend her voice to a young adult version of Pebbles.

Who was involved in Bedrock?

Besides Banks, the canceled Bedrock series would have featured the voices of Stephen Root, Amy Sedaris, Nicole Byer, Joe Lo Truglio, and Manny Jacinto, who were previously cast for the respective roles of Fred, Wilma, Betty, Barney, and Bamm-Bamm. It was executive produced by Banks, Lindsey Kerns, Lon Zimmet, Max Handelman, Sam Register, and Warner Bros. Television Group. It was a production between Warner Bros. Animation and Fox Entertainment.

Bedrock would have been the latest TV adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera sitcom The Flintstones, which lasted for six seasons from 1960-1966. The original series spawned nine animated spin-offs, including 1971’s The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, as well as two live-action movies.
