Wednesday season 2 is currently filming in Ireland and is set to be the biggest production ever filmed there.
The second season of the smash Netflix show produced by Amazon MGM Studios has been shooting in County Wicklow, Ireland, and it looks like it will be a milestone production for Screen Ireland.
The Irish film and TV industry is growing in stature in its own right, but having big-name productions film in the country has also been fruitful, with franchises such as Star Wars coming to its shores in recent years. But Wednesday season 2 looks like it’s the largest-ever production filmed in Ireland in terms of pure production spend.
The news was celebrated by Ireland’s prime minister, Taoiseach Simon Harris. He visited the set and spoke with the likes of Tim Burton and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar.
Wednesday Season 2 filming well underway
It was last year that we learned Wednesday was moving from season one’s Romania to Ireland for its production of season 2. Since then, news on the Tim Burton show has slowly been building up.
The shift in filming location also changes the scene on the show, as Wednesday moves from Nevermore Academy back into the Addams Family homestead. Ortega has teased a more horror-led season this time around.
Season one star Jenna Ortega returns as Wednesday. Also reprising their roles are Emma Myers as Enid, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Hunter Doohan as Tyler, Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, Joy Sunday as Bianca, Moosa Mostafa as Eugene, Georgie Farmer as Ajax, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Sherrif Deputy Ritchie Santiago, Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin and George Burcea as Lurch.
New to the Wednesday Season 2 cast are Billie Piper (Doctor Who), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things), Noah B. Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Frances O’Connor (The Missing), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries) and Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars sequel trilogy).
Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) is also making an appearance, which is interesting given that he’d already played Uncle Fester in the 90s Addams Family movies. Last season his Addams Family co-star and previous Wednesday Addams Christina Ricci had an unrelated role. Fred Armisen plays Fester in Wednesday.
There’s currently no Wednesday season 2 release date.
