Jordana Brewster and Devon Sawa have joined Spyglass’ Heart Eyes, an upcoming slasher romantic comedy from Werewolves Within filmmaker Josh Ruben.
The Valentine’s Day-themed horror flick, which is currently in production in New Zealand, is based on a screenplay written by Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day), and Michael Kennedy (Freaky). Landon will also produce the movie alongside Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks, with Murphy serving as the executive producer along with Gary Barber and Chris Stone.
Who else is in the cast of Heart Eyes?
Brewster and Sawa, who are no strangers to starring in horror features, have joined Heart Eyes’ previously announced cast members Olivia Holt (Totally Killer) and Mason Gooding (Scream VI). Gigi Zumbado (The Price We Pay) also joined the cast.
Brewster’s film and television credits include the Fast & Furious franchise, The Faculty, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, American Heist, Hooking Up, Dallas, Secrets and Lies, and Lethal Weapon, among others.
On the other hand, Sawa — famously known for playing the human form of Casper McFadden in 1995’s Casper movie — starred as Alex Browning in the supernatural horror Final Destination. His other acting credits include Escape Plan: The Extractors, Black Friday, Somewhere Between, Chucky, and more.
What is Heart Eyes about?
The upcoming horror rom-com will center on co-workers working overtime on Valentine’s Day. However, when a killer called the Heart Eyes killer strikes Seattle, the pair of co-workers “are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.”
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies. I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe,” Ruben said in a statement shared by Deadline.
No release date has been set yet for Heart Eyes.
