Beef Season 2: Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan in Talks to Star in Netflix Anthology

With Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway no longer planned for the upcoming Beef Season 2, a new report suggests that the Netflix series has found its stars.

Both Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan are in negotiations on starring in the upcoming second season of Lee Sung Jin’s anthology series. Nothing is concrete as of yet, but if they sign on, they’ll join previously announced stars Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny.

The report by Deadline mentions that whatever roles Isaac and Mulligan may have, it will be for the roles that both Gyllenhaal and Hathaway were set to play.

What is Netflix and A24’s Beef about?

The first season of Beef premiered on Netflix in April 2023. It stars Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, and Patti Yasutake.

“It follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers,” the synopsis for Beef Season 1 reads. “Danny Cho, a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, goes head-to-head with Amy Lau, a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life. The increasing stakes of their feud unravel their lives and relationships in this darkly comedic and deeply moving series.”

Lee Sung Jin has spoken about his desire to turn Beef, which debuted as a ten-episode limited series, into an anthology show before. He told Deadline in January 2024, “We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series. There was always going to be new characters. Whether it stays limited or turns as an anthology or we continue existing, that’s really up to Netflix. But whatever they decide, I’m definitely ready.”
