Criminal: John Hawkes Joins Cast of Prime Video’s Ed Brubaker Series

John Hawkes is set to join the cast of the upcoming TV series adaptation of Ed Brubaker’s hit graphic novel Criminal.

Hawkes, who most recently starred in HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, will appear alongside the previously confirmed Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison, Logan Browning, Pat Healy, and Taylor Selé in the Prime Video series.

In Criminal, Hawkes will play the role of Sebastian Hyde, who is described as the owner of a gambling club, and “a hard man who is six months out from a stroke, and now walks with a cane. Once the biggest shark in the shark tank, Hyde is now showing his humanity a bit — maybe a bit too much,” according to a report from Deadline.

Deadline previously reported that Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden would direct the first four episodes of the upcoming series. Currently, no other casting information is available, and no release information has been set as of yet.

What is Criminal about?

Originally released in 2006, Criminal is an ongoing comic series originally published by Marvel Comics and now published by Image Comics.

The series follows various self-contained stories that focus on different characters, all of whom grew up in the fictional Center City and often frequent the same bar and share a history of growing up in the world of crime.

Arjona is currently starring in Richard Linklater’s latest Netflix film Hit Man, where she stars alongside Glen Powell. She also rose to fame for her role in Disney+’s Star Wars series Andor, where she played Bix Caleen. Arjona also appeared in HBO’s True Detective Season 2 as well as in Netflix’s Narcos and HBO’s Irma Vep.
