According to Variety, Lionsgate Television’s upcoming Nurse Jackie sequel has officially been picked by Prime Video. The medical dramedy series was originally set up at Showtime when it was first announced a year ago.
The Sopranos alum Edie Falco, who won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her incredible work on the original series, will be reprising the titular role after nearly a decade since Nurse Jackie had concluded its 7-season run. Besides the Prime Video sequel, Falco will also next be seen in James Cameron’s highly-anticipated Avatar 3, where she’s be playing the role of General Frances Ardmore.
What to expect from the Nurse Jackie sequel?
“10 years after we left Jackie Peyton (Falco) clinging to life in the series finale, we find her back on her feet in spite of having lost her nursing license,” reads the official logline. “The continuation of her story will find her facing new dilemmas in trying to be good in a world where being bad is often not only easier, but a lot more fun.”
The Nurse Jackie sequel hails from Liz Flahive and Abe Sylvia, who are both writing and executive producing the series. In addition to leading the cast, Falco is also set as an executive producer alongside Bob Greenblatt. It is a production by Lionsgate Television.
The original Showtime series was created by Liz Brixius, Evan Dunsky, and Linda Wallem. It centered around Falco’s Jackie Peyton, who was introduced as a ER nurse with a drug addiction. The series also starred Merritt Wever, Eve Best, Peter Facinelli, Betty Gilpin, Paul Schulze, Anna Deavere Smith, and more.
