After Max canceled Scavengers Reign after only one season, Variety reports that the first season of the animated sci-fi drama will be streaming on Netflix starting May 31. Unfortunately, according to sources close to the outlet, Netflix has yet to determine whether they’ll pick up the series for a second season.
The first season’s debut on the streaming service will determine Scavengers Reign’s fate. Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner created the series, with Chris Prynoski serving as the executive producer. Co-executive producers include Sean Buckelew and James Merrill. Scavengers Reign is a Green Street Pictures production, in partnership with Titmouse, Inc.
“We are beyond thrilled that ‘Scavengers Reign’ will be joining the incredible animation lineup on Netflix,” the creatives behind the series said in a statement (via Variety). “We’re immensely grateful to everyone who has watched the show already and to Netflix for giving it an opportunity to be discovered by a wider audience.”
What is Scavengers Reign about?
Scavengers Reign centers on the crew members of a damaged interstellar ship called Demeter 227, who are stranded on an unfamiliar and dangerous, alien planet. Together, the survivors must lean on each other and fight against the dangers while they wait for rescue. Since its release on Max in 2023, the series has immediately received positive critical reception.
The voice cast members include Sunita Mani as Ursula, Alia Shawkat as Levi, Wunmi Mosaku as Azi, Bob Stephenson as Sam, and Ted Travelstead as Kamen, among others.
“When a deep space freighter is damaged by a solar flare, its surviving crew are stranded on a beautiful and unforgiving planet. They begin to learn the true nature of this planet as they try to survive long enough to escape or be rescued,” the synopsis reads.
The first season of Scavengers Reign consists of 12 seasons, set to hit Netflix on May 31.
