ComingSoon is pleased to present an exclusive track from A Gentleman In Moscow — Original Paramount+ Series soundtrack featuring music by Emmy-nominated composer Federico Jusid. Lakeshore Records will release the album digitally on May 10. Listen to “A Last Walk in the Snow” below.
“As Alexander Rostov makes his last walk, before being imprisoned in the confines of the Metropol hotel, many emotions come to play; anxiety, sadness, and angst. This piece tries to expand that turmoil of feelings, but always addressing Rostov’s tireless strength to keep his dignity,” said Federico.
“The piece is built around Count Alexander Rostov’s leitmotive, at the beginning played on top of a swirl of fast scales of the strings, then played by a nostalgic violin solo, and lastly when the Count is exposed to the eyes of others, played in a more phlegmatic way, by just a few instruments of the orchestra. As if he didn’t want his environment to witness his torment. [It] uses a combination of a classical orchestra with instruments from Russian folklore such as the balalaika, the cimbalom, and the domra.”
The soaring orchestral score mixes traditional Russian music with strings, piano, oboe, and harpsichord, vividly bringing to life the series taking place just after the Russian Revolution. Starring Emmy-Award-winning Ewan McGregor, the limited series is based on Amor Towles’ best-selling novel and is streaming now on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.
An adaptation of Amor Towles’ internationally best-selling novel, A Gentleman in Moscow follows Count Alexander Rostov, played by McGregor who, in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, finds that his gilded past has placed him on the wrong side of history. Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family, and love.
