The official photos for Max‘s upcoming Pretty Little Liars Season 2 have dropped. They provide fans with a first look at the newest installment titled Summer School.

Pretty Little Liars Season 2 Gets a New Villain

Shared by Cosmopolitan, the Pretty Little Liars: Summer School photos also introduced viewers to the teen drama thriller’s newest main antagonist in the form of a creepy masked knife-wielding culprit. Series creators Lindsay Calhoon Bring and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa opened up about what fans can expect from Season 2’s new villain, which they described as someone who’s much scarier than A.

“Our villain is a female figure of horror, which is something we really wanted to explore in our female-centered horror show,” Aguirre-Sacasa said. “We also wanted our villain to feel quite apocalyptic and terrifying. And because most of our season is set during summer—besides taking inspiration from from our favorite slashers—we wanted it to feel a little more apocalyptic, like something like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or even Midsommar.”

Bring added, “The scares are a bit bigger, and badder and bolder. We do have a new a new villain who possibly is connected to Archie Waters, as we’ll learn early on in episode 1. Roberto and I and our writers are all very obsessed with Creepypasta, so we love sort of having our own website. And this horror villain is going to test every one of the girls and they’ll go on their own personal journey.”

Based on Sara Shepard’s bestselling book series, Max’s Pretty Little Liars reboot is being led by Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, and Maia Reficco. Joining them are Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, Lea Salonga, Eric Johnson, Jordan Gonzalez and Alex Aiono. It is executive produced by Aguirre-Sacasa, Bring, I. Marlene King, Michael Grassi, Caroline Baron, and Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.
