Netflix officially announced that Parks and Recreation vet Nick Offerman and GLOW alum Betty Gilpin have signed on to join the Death by Lightning cast for its upcoming historical drama miniseries.
Offerman, who recently won an Emmy for his guest-starring performance in The Last of Us, is set to portray the role of Chester A. Arthur, President James Garfield’s vice president and eventual successor. As for Gilpin, she has been tapped to play First Lady Crete Garfield. They will be joining previously announced leads Matthew Macfadyen and Michael Shannon.
What is Death by Lightning about?
“The limited drama brings to life the epic and stranger-than-fiction true story of James Garfield (Shannon), reluctant 20th president of the United States, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau (Macfadyen) — the man who would come to kill him,” reads the logline.
Based on Candice Millard’s Destiny of The Republic novel, Death by Lightning is created and executive produced by Mike Makowsky, with Matt Ross attached to direct all episodes. It is executive produced by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with Ross, Bernie Caulfield, and Duncan Muggoch.
