Hulu has officially given a series order to the upcoming college football comedy Chad Powers, which is inspired by ESPN’s Eli Manning sketch. The former Super Bowl MVP has also boarded the project as an executive producer along with his brother, former NFL player Peyton Manning.
Coming off from the commercial success of the R-rated romantic comedy Anyone But You, Glen Powell has signed on for the leading role in the new Hulu series. This serves as Powell’s first major TV project as the solo lead after appearing in 2016’s short-lived dark comedy Scream Queens.
“The love for Chad Powers has surprised me in spectacular ways,” Eli Manning said in a statement (via Deadline). “I played 16 years in the NFL, but now when I’m in a restaurant or walking through an airport, it’s not uncommon for fans to scream, ‘Hey Chad!’ I’m so excited to team up with my friends Glen Powell, Michael Waldron and Omaha Productions to continue to tell the Chad Powers story and see what he does next.”
What to expect from Chad Powers?
Chad Powers is co-created by Powell and Michael Waldron (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), who also co-wrote the pilot. In addition to starring, Powell is also executive producing via his Barnstorm Productions banner, along with Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown and ESPN. It is a production by 20th Television, with Waldron and Adam Fasullo serving as producers.
“When bad behavior nukes hotshot QB Russ Holliday’s college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers,” reads the logline.
