Quantum Leap Showrunners Reveal Season 3 Plans

While the renewal decision for Quantum Leap remains unknown, co-showrunners Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris are teasing their plans for a potential third season of the NBC sci-fi, saying that the show “can have a little more humor now” should the higher-ups decide to pick up the series for Season 3.

Though the viewership for Quantum Leap Season 2 — which recently had its two-hour finale — was less than the first season, it still managed to bring in over 3 million viewers. So, the show getting picked up for another season may happen. However, while it has not been renewed yet, the showrunners have already laid out their ideas for Season 3 if they ever get a chance to continue.

In an interview (via TVLine), Gero revealed that they already know the direction they will be taking for Season 3.

“We know what the shape would be for Season 3, where it would go and how it would end. We like to have these seasons feel like standalone novels in a series of books you really love and so, this season had a real beginning, middle and end, and always that little epilogue that is like, ‘This is where we’re going in the future.’ We know the shape of what the Season 3 book would be,” Gero explained.

Meanwhile, Geogaris teased that they could incorporate more humor to the story, considering how the second season ended.

“We’ve spent two seasons building up two great leapers and a supporting cast that now may or may not have a code that may or may not work again to pull people out, and it really becomes about what can we affirmatively do with this new dynamic. The fact that we can have a little more humor now because we don’t have this heaviness hanging over us. We spent two seasons building up a launchpad to a whole new journey,” said Geogaris.

What is Quantum Leap about?

Quantum Leap is a revival of the popular 1989 show of the same name, which Donald P. Bellisario created. The series is set 22 years after the original one took place, picking up where the series finale left off.

“One leap can change everything. Dr. Ben Song returns for an action-packed new season as he leaps into different people’s lives throughout history, facing one seemingly impossible challenge after another to make right what once went wrong. He can only hope the next leap will finally bring him back home – but his thrilling journey through time has only just begun,” the synopsis reads.

The revival series stars Raymond Lee as Ben Song, Caitlin Bassett as Addison Augustine, Mason Alexander Park as Ian Wright, Eliza Taylor as Hannah Carson, Ernie Hudson as Herbert Williams, Peter Gadiot as Tom Westfall, and Nanrisa Lee as Jenn Chou, among others.
