Peacock has ordered four scripted shows, including an espionage drama led by Shang-Chi star Simu Liu and a mockumentary titled Mr. Throwback starring NBA star Steph Curry. The orders also include the limited series Devil in Disguise and the suburban thriller All Her Fault.
What to know about Simu Liu’s currently untitled Peacock project
Liu, also known for his supporting role in Barbie, will team up with Aquaman director James Wan for what’s described as a techno-thriller that’s based on an original idea.
“Five minutes in the future, a first-generation-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Simu Liu) realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears,” reads the official synopsis. “Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.”
The project hails from creator, writer, and executive producer Thomas Brandon (Legacies). Liu also executive produces along with Wan, Michael Clear (Archive 81, M3GAN), and Rob Hackett (Archive 81, I Know What You Did Last Summer) for Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone oversees the series for Atomic Monster.
It marks Wan’s second project at Peacock, following the straight-to-series order of the contemporary horror thriller Teacup. Wan executive produces that project alongside writer Ian McCulloch. The series comes from Wan’s Atomic Monster and UCP.
What to know about Mr. Throwback
Moving from NBC to Peacock, Mr. Throwback focuses on “a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer (played by Adam Pally) as he looks for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA legend Steph Curry,” per the logline.
The project hails from Happy Endings creator David Caspe and Matthew Libman and Daniel Libma. Caspe writes and executive produces with the Libmans in addition to Pally, Curry and Unanimous’ Erick Peyton. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces in association with Curry’s Unanimous Media.
What to know about Devil in Disguise and All Her Fault
Devil In Disguise: John Wayne Gacy “peels back the twisted layers of John Wayne Gacy’s life while weaving in the heartrending stories of his mostly gay victims; exploring the grief, guilt, and trauma of their families and friends; and exposing the systemic failures, missed opportunities and societal prejudices that fueled his reign of terror.” It’s a dramatized series inspired by the 2021 Peacock docuseries produced by NBC News Studios: John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise.
It hails from showrunner, writer, and executive producer Patrick Macmanus (Dr. Death, The Girl From Plainville). Littleton Road Productions, Kelly Funke, NBC News Studios, Noah Oppenheim, and Liz Cole also executive produce.
As for All Her Fault, it unfolds in Chicago. The focus is on Marissa Irvine, who arrives at 14 Arthur Avenue, “expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn’t a mother she recognizes. She isn’t the nanny. She doesn’t have Milo. And so begins every parent’s worst nightmare.”
It’s based on the novel of the same name by Andrea Mara, who is an associate producer. Megan Gallagher (Wolf, Suspicion) serves as the show’s creator, writer, and executive producer. Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, and Joanna Strevens for Carnival also executive produce.
