Singer-songwriter Katy Perry will be closing another fruitful chapter in her life as she will be concluding her stint as an American Idol judge in the upcoming 22nd season of the singing competition show. The “Firework” singer announced her exit on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.
When Kimmel asked Perry how long she will be doing “Idol,” which she has served as a judge for seven seasons since 2018, the singer revealed Season 22 will “probably” be her last.
“So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol. I mean I love Idol so much,” said Perry. “It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat. You what I’m saying, Jimmy?”
Perry has been joined by Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan since American Idol was rebooted by ABC. Kimmel then asked the singer whether the two knew of her plans, to which she responded, “They’ll find out tonight.”
She added, “They know that I have things planned for this year. It’s going to be a very, very exciting year, Jimmy.” Both Lionel and Bryan have yet to comment about Perry’s announcement as well as their future on the show.

Of course, fans are already speculating that Perry might be working on a new album. She has not put out a full-length album for over three years, with 2020’s “Smile” serving as her last. But while nothing has been completely confirmed as of yet, various reports suggest that the singer is already working on a new record.
Who will replace Katy Perry?
Given that Perry has yet to complete the 22nd season of American Idol until her planned exit, her replacement might not have been decided yet. This isn’t the first time the reality show has seen some changes on the judging panel, with previous judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson having left despite being the show’s longtime trio.
