Almost four years after Ratched debuted on Netflix in 2020, Sarah Paulson — who played asylum nurse Mildred Ratched — confirmed that the psychological thriller series will not be returning for Season 2.
In a video uploaded via The AHS Zone’s X (formerly Twitter) page, the actress was asked if there would be a second season to the Netflix series, to which she promptly responded, “No.” You can watch the video down below:
This isn’t the first time Paulson commented about the show’s future, though it does abolishe all hope for Ratched Season 2 ever happening. In a 2022 interview with Variety, the award-winning actress revealed she is unsure whether or not there will be a second season.
Netflix has not yet released a statement.
What is Ratched about?
Produced by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), Ratched — set in 1947 — served as a prequel to the 1975 Miloš Forman-helmed film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, primarily centering around the main antagonist, tyrannical nurse Mildred Ratched.
The official synopsis for Ratched reads: “Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning, and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.”
In addition to Paulson playing the titular lead, Ratched also starred Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Jon Jon Briones as Dr. Richard Hanover, Charlie Carver as Huck Finnigan, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, and Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood.
Ratched Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
