A Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot could well be in the works, according to a notable yet uncredited, producer of the original series.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Finally Happening?
Country music star Dolly Parton produced the original Sarah Michelle Gellar-fronted series with her Sandollar Productions company, and co-produced the Buffy movie that starred Kristy Swanson and spinoff show Angel. Parton now claims a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is on the cards.
Speaking to Business Insider, Parton spoke of a mysterious ”they” working on a reboot of the beloved vamp-vanquishing show.
“They’re still working on that. “They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.”
There’s no additional information on whether or not a reboot means a new series or a movie at this time.
While the world of Buffy the Vampire has lived on with projects in other mediums, such as the recent Audible drama series Slayers, there hasn’t been a full-on Buffy revival for various reasons. Attempted reboots had been pitched in 2009 and 2018, but ultimately floundered.
In Parton’s chat with Business Insider, she put the original show’s success down to the people who worked on it every day, as she was often in Nashville when filming took place in Los Angeles. But maintains she was still ”very involved” in the project.
In the meantime, if there’s a Buffy itch that needs scratching then the aforementioned Slayers: A Buffyverse Story picks up 10 years after the events of the show, and sees James Marsters, Anthony Head, Charisma Carpenter, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson, James Charles Leary, and Danny Strong reprise their original roles in audio form.
