In an unfortunate turn of events, WWE superstar CM Punk suffered an injury at the 2024 Royal Rumble, potentially forcing him out of any match at WrestleMania 40.
According to a report from Wrestling Observer that was later confirmed by PWInsider, Punk suffered a torn left triceps during his time in the ring at the Royal Rumble. The severity of the injury is currently unknown, but Punk is said to be heading toward having surgery on his injury following an appearance at tonight’s episode of WWE RAW.
Punk could potentially be out until summer 2024
Should Punk need surgery on the triceps, he’ll likely need anywhere from 4-6 months of recovery, which would put him out of commission for WrestleMania 40, an event that many believed would see Punk headlining one of the two nights.
If the timetable is accurate, Punk won’t be able to return to the ring until sometime this summer.
According to the reports, Punk’s injury likely came when he took a DDT from Drew McIntyre. Punk could be seen holding his arm from then on after. He would later be one of the final two remaining superstars in the ring and was eliminated by Cody Rhodes, who won the Royal Rumble.
Punk returned to WWE last November at Survivor Series and only wrestled in two live matches before making his television in-ring debut at Royal Rumble. Prior to that, Punk was wrestling for All Elite Wrestling, where he also tore his right triceps.
