Visionary director Christopher Nolan has spoken highly of Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie’s recently concluded series The Curse.
While moderating a panel for the series, Nolan spoke with series creators and stars Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie. The filmmaker had plenty of praise for the duo’s work and even compared The Curse to shows like Twin Peaks and The Prisoner — other revolutionary series that have “no precedence,” according to Nolan.
“There are so few shows that come along that have genuinely no precedence,” Nolan stated (via The Playlist). “You’re going back to things like Twin Peaks, or The Prisoner, or Dennis Potter’s Singing Detective and things like that, so you’re in an amazing space, and I can’t wait to catch up with the climax.”

Created and written by Fielder, Showtime’s The Curse premiered on November 10, 2023. The bizarre, fictional series sees Fielder and Emma Stone play a married couple named Asher and Whitney Siegel. The series also stars Barkhad Abdi, Hikmah Warsame, Nizhonniya Luxi Austin, Gary Farmer, Constance Shulman, and Corbin Bernsen.
What is The Curse about?
“The Curse centers on Whitney and Asher Siegel, a newlywed couple struggling to bring their vision for eco-conscious housing to the small community of Española, New Mexico,” the series’ official synopsis reads. “But, their efforts are complicated when an eccentrically flawed reality TV producer, Dougie, sees opportunity in their story. As the series unfolds, the couple find themselves caught in a mysterious web of ethical and moral gray zones – all while trying to keep their relationship afloat.”
